What are the eight government departments?

These eight state departments are: Ministry of Civil Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Health, General Administration of Customs and Civil Aviation Administration.

According to the relevant laws and regulations, the State Council has set up a general office. The establishment, cancellation or merger of the State Council's constituent departments shall be proposed by the organization and staffing administration organ of the State Council, discussed and approved by the the State Council executive meeting, and submitted to the National People's Congress for decision by Premier the State Council; When the National People's Congress is not in session, it shall be submitted to the NPC Standing Committee for decision.

Legal basis: Article 90 of the Constitution of People's Republic of China (PRC). Ministers and committee directors of the State Council are responsible for the work of their own departments. Convene and preside over ministerial meetings or committee meetings to discuss and decide on major issues in the work of the department. All ministries and commissions shall, in accordance with laws, administrative regulations and the State Council's decisions and orders, issue orders, instructions and rules within the authority of their respective departments.

Extension: Eight ministries and commissions refer to nine ministries and commissions that originally included the Ministry of Railways. Namely, the Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Railways (now cancelled), the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Space (now the Space Administration) and the Ministry of Culture.
