Classification of Xiuning Dialect

Like all Huizhou dialects, Xiuning dialect also has internal differences, but the internal differences are only differences in tone. Compared with other Huizhou dialects, the internal flow is higher. Xiuning County is one of the six counties in Huizhou. Its main body is located in Huizhou basin. In the 13th year of Jian 'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (208), Yang Xiu and Haiyang were built. In the ninth year of Emperor Wendi (598), Xiuning County was named.

Tunxi District covers an area of 2 125 square kilometers and has a population of 270,000 (in 2004). It is the seat of the municipal government, located at the lowest point of Huizhou Basin, and originally belonged to Xiuning County. Since Emperor Wendi changed his name in 598, Xiuning County has been the 16th capital of Liyang Dongxiang in Xiuning County (both are ancient village names). Tunxi Town was established in the late Ming Dynasty, belonging to Xiuning County, and Huizhou District was established in1May 1949. Tunxi was established by the government and separated from Xiuning County. 1987 after the city was built from the land, it became a municipal district (Meilin Township in Xiuning County and Luandun Township in Shexian County were included) and a resident of the municipal government, governing Liyang, Yanghu, chess and cards.

It covers an area of 249 square kilometers and has a population of 200,000. Xiuning dialect is now basically divided into five parts:

Beixiang Film (Haiyang Film) is distributed in Yuanqukou Township, Qiyunshan Town, Lantian Town, Wei Qiao Township, Shangshan Township of Wan 'an Town and Meilin Township of Xintan Town in Tunxi District of Xiuning County.

Dongxiang Film (Linxi Film) is distributed in Dongxiang Town (including the original Chakou Township), Yucun, Fiona Fang and Baiji Township (except Meilin Township in Xintan Town and Luandun Village in Tunguang Town) in Tunxi District, and the original Shimen and Hengguan Township in Wangcun Town of Shexian County.

Nanxiang (Wucheng) is located in Yuetan, Shandou and Longtian.

Xixiang Pian (Xikou Pian) is distributed in Xikou Town (including Tan Bing, Jiangtan and Huaqiao Township) and Chenxia Township.

Southwest rural areas (Liukou area) are distributed in Liukou Town, Wangcun Town and most areas of he cheng Township, formerly fengcun Township.

Note: Xiuning County and parts of Tunxi District use Huizhou dialect instead of Xiuning dialect.

(1) Yixian Nanxiang dialect belongs to Yixian dialect of Hui nationality and is distributed in Rucun Township, Lantian Town.

(2) Wuyuan Beixiang dialect belongs to Wuyuan dialect and Qiyu dialect of Hui people, which is distributed in Banqiao Township, Yuanhuaqiao Township of Xikou Town, some villages of fengcun Township and Dalian Village of Liukou Township adjacent to Wuyuan County.

(3) The northeast dialect of Wuyuan belongs to Qiyu dialect, which is distributed in Qukou village committee of Yuanqukou township.

(4) Xixiang dialect in Shexian belongs to Shexian dialect and is a part of Hui dialect, which is distributed in Luandun Village, Tunguang Town, Tunxi District.

(5) Chun 'an dialect-Sui 'an dialect belongs to Yanzhou dialect, which is used by immigrants from Xin 'anjiang Reservoir.

(6) There is no Jiangshan dialect similar to Wu dialect.

Other dialect areas in this area are bilingual (Hakka at home and Xiuning when going out).
