Little Cotton Jacket is a film adapted from the advanced deeds of Duan Hongyan, a senior two student in Jingbian Middle School. It tells the true story of Duan Hongyan's filial piety to his parents, love for his hometown, independence and self-improvement, and optimism.

Duan Hongyan was born in a poor peasant family in Zaociliang Village, Zhenjing Town, Jingbian County. Before she was born, her mother was paralyzed by rheumatoid arthritis, and at the age of 3, her father was blind because of retinal detachment. Xiao Hongyan has shouldered the burden of taking care of her parents since she was 6 years old, becoming "mom's hands and feet" and "dad's eyes" and a "little cotton-padded jacket" for mom and dad.
