Saverin was born into a Jewish family in Sao Paulo and grew up in the Florida city of Miami. His father was involved in exports and real estate. He attended Gulliver School in Miami and later attended Harvard University, where he became a member of the Phoenix-SK Club and president of the Harvard Investment Association. In 2006, he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. In 2012, billionaire Facebook co-founder Saverin also joined the ranks of renounced U.S. citizenship and became a permanent resident of Singapore.
