A scientist from NASA proposed a way to colonize Venus.

Alex Howe, an astrophysicist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, proposed a method to make Venus livable.

Venus is an excellent competitor for human colonization, but the biggest obstacle to emigrating to Venus is its "hellish" atmosphere.

Alex Howe's proposal assumes that the whole planet is surrounded by a huge shell, which will capture the toxic environment of Venus from below and allow scientists to create a breathable atmosphere from above. However, it will take about 200 years.

Venus's gravity is very similar to ours, and its atmospheric density is enough to provide reliable protection from the sun's rays. Besides, Venus is closer than Mars. This makes the planet attractive for future colonization.

Alex Howe explored several possibilities of colonizing and globalizing Venus in his work, and proposed a method to achieve this goal, that is, to create an artificial surface in the upper atmosphere of Venus, whose temperature and pressure are similar to those of the Earth.

Alex Howe pointed out that this kind of surface can be built with local materials, which will use nitrogen to hover in the atmosphere, thus holding them up. Because of this, engineers can create a "breathable" environment.

Alex Howe also discussed the engineering, logistics and energy requirements of the proposed method. Before the settlers arrive, the robot detector will absorb the atmosphere of Venus and store oxygen for human use. The accumulated carbon dioxide will be used to produce new technology casting tiles or starch, and the size of each tile will be equivalent to the size of a city block. The scientist estimates that it takes about 72 trillion tiles to cover the earth. Then install a huge shell, so that scientists can start geo-engineering the upper atmosphere to make it friendly to human beings.
