The Historical Evolution of Qiting Town

Qiting Town, Macheng City, Hubei Province, located at the foot of Dabie Mountain, is a civilized ancient town with a history of 1500 years. According to "Macheng County Records", Qiting Town is Chiting County, which belongs to one of the eighteen barbarian counties. In the third year of Tang Wude (AD 620), the court set up Tingzhou here, and Wude was merged into Macheng in the eighth year. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, a peasant uprising broke out here. After suppressing the peasant uprising, Luo Dengrui was sentenced to open up wasteland to build a city. In the early Qing dynasty, there were military yamen in eight counties under the control of Huangzhou Prefecture. Huangzhou Prefecture set up a general chronicle in the pavilion, which is called "Er Fu Yamen" by the people. In the eighth year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1669), Huangzhou was the prefect, and the official came to Yu Chenglong. As a tongzhi, Qiting was set up separately. Qiting Town in Qing Dynasty is also one of the central post stations of Dipu (postal biography) in northeastern Hubei.

In modern history, Qiting Town has a glorious revolutionary history. Qiting Town is one of the cradles of the jute uprising that broke out in 1927. 1947 during the war of liberation, Liu Deng's army leapt thousands of miles into Dabie Mountain and fought for three days and three nights in Jiuluoshan, Qiting Town. Qiting Town is also a famous hometown of immigrants. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Qiting Town was one of the immigrant distribution centers at that time. In 2005, sctv made a special trip to Qiting Ancient Town to shoot a documentary film "Seeking Roots and Asking Ancestors", which was also reported by Sichuan Daily. The ancient town of Qiting is located on a hillside, with the back of the mountain facing the water. With the city as the boundary, the fertile land in the southeast in front of the city is vast, and the peaks in the northwest behind the city are green. The geographical location is unique. The river in front of the city flows into the Yangtze River, and the Jiuluo Mountain scenic area behind the city is continuous with mountains and runs straight through the Dabie Mountains. The pavilion is an important land and water transportation hub in ancient times and has always been a place where people gather. The famous ancient Xinghua Village is the only place from Chang 'an to Huangzhou. Du Mu in Tang Dynasty and Su Dongpo in Song Dynasty all left immortal poems here. There are well-preserved ancient villages outside the city, some of which have been listed as cultural relics protection units. Qiting Town is now an important town in the southwest of Macheng, located next to 106 National Road, and is the southwest gateway of Macheng.
