Speaking of freedom, everyone longs for freedom. Many people voluntarily changed their nationality. For example, Einstein once chose to give up German citizenship because he yearned for Switzerland, a free country.

After his repeated requests, his elderly father reluctantly gave him the relevant application. Thus,1February 28, 896, Einstein was officially "immoral" and no longer a German boy.

Interestingly, however, Einstein's application for Swiss citizenship was not approved after "defecating from Germany". For the next five years, he was a stateless wanderer. Nevertheless, Einstein was satisfied with this special time.

Later, in 1940, after 40 years of becoming a Swiss citizen, he became an American citizen, but still retained his Swiss nationality. So when it comes to citizenship, Einstein is actually a textbook example, from a stateless "liberal" to having dual citizenship.

How important is nationality?

If nationality doesn't seem so important to this great man, after all, people are welcome everywhere. So for ordinary people, the importance of nationality is self-evident, especially in troubled times.

Without the protection of nationality, it means that many of their rights cannot be effectively guaranteed in the case of unfair treatment or persecution, because no other country can provide them with corresponding protection.

At the same time, it is under the jurisdiction of the country where you usually live, which is a double blow.

For example, refugees who lost their homes because of the war have become homeless "free men" because they are not protected by the government and are not accepted by foreign countries.

For example, the movie Terminal is based on a true story. This story is about an Iranian refugee who stayed at the airport for 17 years and was called the most "helpless" tourist in history.

The true story of "A Man flies to America" doesn't have many twists and turns, but it tells the story of a man who flies to America and is no longer his land, trying to overthrow the government of his hometown through American security after the coup. Because his passport was not recognized by the Immigration Bureau, he could not enter the United States, nor could he board the plane "home", and finally stayed at the airport for more than ten years.

A stateless "free man" seems to be free, but in fact there are too many involuntary constraints.

For example, in the last century, due to the Vietnam War, there were many Vietnamese refugees on the border of Mengqiao Town, Jinping County, Yunnan Province. Because the Vietnamese government did not recognize them at that time, our government did not announce its acceptance of them. Even if they live in China, they don't have a resident identity card because they have no nationality.

How hard are they?

Living in a remote area, without the support of the government, there is almost no electricity in the village because refugees can't afford it. People live in low-rise houses, and there are hardly any decent things in the houses. Refugees live a poor life of digging wild vegetables and drinking mountain spring water every day, and studying has become a great luxury.

Since then, the government of China has helped the refugees build houses, provided them with drinking water and given them some land to grow crops.

Later, starting from 1979, the government unconditionally accepted all refugees and arranged them in Mengqiao Town to solve their difficulties in food, clothing, housing and transportation. Later, according to the national conditions of China, the China government helped the refugees to become self-reliant, which showed that they could produce food without paying public grain, just like farmers in China.

At that time, the life of refugees had been greatly improved. Many refugees were grateful and had to hand in some food, poultry and livestock as a symbol of gratitude.

It can be seen that with the help of our government, these refugees have been treated well. But in contrast, the treatment of many stateless refugees in the world is self-evident.

Several possibilities of losing nationality

Nationality is the basis of citizens' obligation of loyalty to the country, and it is also the obligation of the state to protect citizens.
