The DS 160 form for visiting relatives in the United States has been submitted. What should we do next?

The next step is to pay the visa application fee. After the payment process is completed, an appointment interview can be arranged.

You can pay the visa fee in three ways:

1. Cash payment at the counter of China CITIC Bank.

You can pay the non-immigrant visa (NIV) application fee in cash at any branch of China CITIC Bank. Before going to the bank, be sure to log on to the personal data page of the reservation website and print the corresponding US visa fee list. When paying the visa fee, please bring your passport and printed visa payment slip.

After the payment process is completed, please print the receipt number and keep it properly. Once lost, it cannot be replaced. If you don't provide the receipt number, you can't make an appointment.

2. Smart counters

From March 2018 17, applicants can pay visa fees at more than 1400 CITIC Bank outlets and more than 4,700 smart counters in China. For applicants who use non-CITIC bank cards to pay visa fees at smart counters, UnionPay will charge 0.49% of the visa fees as a handling fee. The maximum handling fee for each transaction shall not exceed 17 yuan.

3. Online payment

The most convenient way to pay the application fee for non-immigrant visa (NIV) is to pay online with a debit card issued by a local bank in China. The system does not accept credit cards. Once you log in your personal data, you can pay with a debit card, and you can only pay the visa fee online with a debit card issued by a local bank in China (credit cards or debit cards issued outside China are not supported).

Matters needing attention

1. Whether you make an appointment through the online system or through the reservation center in embassies and consulates in China, USA, you must provide the visa fee receipt number printed on the payment receipt. Use the visa fee receipt number to start the appointment interview process immediately.

2. No matter whether the visa is issued or not, every visa applicant (including children) needs to pay the application fee for machine-readable visa (MRV), which is non-refundable and non-transferable.
