Expedited interview appointment process—applicants for students who urgently need to enroll in school, APEC business card holders going to the United States, emergency medical treatment or other emergencies

In some cases In an emergency, applicants who are unable to wait for the normal telephone appointment time to come for an interview can apply for an expedited interview. Reasons for considering an earlier interview include:

Students and Exchange Visitors --- If your scheduled interview is later than the start of your course or exchange program, you may request an expedited interview.

All APEC Business Travel Card holders can apply for an expedited interview.

Other emergencies---urgent medical treatment, family emergencies (such as visiting a critically ill relative or attending the funeral of a relative who is a very close family member) and other emergencies, such as traveling to Appearances in U.S. courts, etc.

Applicants who need to apply for an expedited interview should first make an appointment through the normal procedures at the Visa Information Service Center. Callers from within China can dial 4008-872-333 or Shanghai local number (021) 3881-4611. Callers from outside China may dial (86-21) 3881-4611.

After obtaining the specific appointment information at the Visa Information Appointment Center, please fax your written application for an expedited interview to (86-10) 6532-3178 (only for applicants living within the Beijing consular area) . The content of the fax should include the reason for requesting an expedited interview and the applicant's current appointment date, time and appointment number. Please be sure to leave a valid contact number on the fax. We will contact the applicant after the expedited interview application is approved.

Please note that being granted an expedited interview does not increase your chances of getting a visa. Applicants for expedited cases are simply given an earlier interview time than their regular phone appointment. Applicants for humanitarian assistance cases are not necessarily granted a visa. Applicants must still meet all conditions for the non-immigrant visa they are applying for.

Please note:

If the applicant has not made a normal appointment at the Visa Information Service Center, his or her application for an expedited interview will not be accepted.

Chinese residents should apply for a visa at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their place of permanent residence. Applicants should send requests for expedited interviews to the appropriate U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
