10 Crazy Things You Found at Airport Security
Every time you go through airport security, do you always feel a little scared? Especially if you’re carrying something you shouldn’t have, or if your bag gets a second look from security personnel.
From immigrants hidden in mattresses, to a rocket launcher, to live tarantulas in suitcases, here are the items that leave security guards speechless.
Smugglers
Two migrants were found hiding in mattresses strapped to a van in a desperate attempt to smuggle themselves into Europe.
At checkpoints on the North African coast and in Morocco, border officers tore open beds wrapped in plastic tied to a white vehicle. A man wearing a black and white T-shirt and black jeans walked out of the mattress, looking a little dazed.
The second man in a blue T-shirt walked out of the second mattress, then walked around the corner and sat down.
It is reported that the driver of the car fled to Morocco before being arrested by the authorities. Both men were in good health and did not require medical assistance.
A BABY
The level of human stupidity when it comes to smuggling items across borders on airplanes seems unimaginable.
Security at a United Arab Emirates airport caught an Egyptian couple trying to bring their 5-month-old son on board a plane hidden in a small handbag.
The couple were charged with putting the child in danger and trying to smuggle the baby.
The couple arrived in the UAE but were barred from entering the country because they did not have a baby visa, the international airport reported. The father then convinced his wife to put the child in their carry-on suitcase and hope airport security wouldn't notice.
Fortunately, the baby was still in good condition when he was found.
A tiger cub
A two-month-old tiger cub was found sedated and hidden in a woman's luggage at Bangkok airport. Among stuffed tiger toys.
The Thai citizen was trying to board a flight to Iraq but ran into a major trouble while checking in. The airport staff discovered the tiger cub through the X-ray detector, which aroused suspicion.
The tiger cub was then sent to the rescue center of the National Park Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department for treatment take care of.
Live Pigeon
Maybe the following person thinks that having an extra pair of wings will help the plane fly faster.
An Australian tourist aroused the suspicion of customs officials when he went through customs with two live pigeons and an eggplant hidden in his underwear.
These poor pigeons were stuffed in envelopes and clinging tightly to the man's thighs. Fortunately, the pigeons were not dead when they were discovered.
Rocket Launcher
In 2019, US airport security personnel confiscated a rocket launcher from a tourist's luggage in Maryland.
The launch device was found in the checked luggage of a man who claimed to work for the military. He told officials at Washington International Airport that the launcher was a souvenir from Kuwait.
Fortunately, the item was not an actual working device and it was confiscated and turned over to the State Fire Marshal for safe disposal, and the man was allowed to catch his flight.
Gold bars worth US$1.2 million
Indian aircraft maintenance personnel performed routine inspections at the airport. 24 gold bars worth US$1.2 million were found on board a Jet Airways Boeing 737 aircraft in India.
Although this is the first time gold bars have been found on a plane at the airport, security officers have caught people trying to bring gold bars on board in carry-on luggage in the past.
However, this is not surprising because India is the world's largest gold consumer, making gold smuggling rampant.
Lipstick Weapons
When we think of airport security, we usually think of searches for dangerous items. Especially when this kind of weapon may cause the plane to crash in the worst case scenario, but you would never think that a woman's dressing box would have a deadly weapon capable of causing serious harm.
In 2012, at a small international airport in Florida, a young woman was pulled aside by security personnel. The reason was that there was a suspicious lipstick box in the bag she was carrying.
When the agents examined the cosmetic product, they realized the lipstick was actually a 350,000-volt stun gun.
Surprisingly, these devices sell for less than 170 yuan online.
Chameleon Hat
In 2002, a 17-year-old girl from Dubai was intercepted at Manchester Airport because of her surprising hat.
In fact, she carries a rare chameleon on top of her head. At first, other passengers thought it was a plastic trinket until they noticed its tongue sticking out.
The girl also gave this pet a nice name, Haite. Unfortunately, Hatter was unable to stay with his owner.
Seal Head
In 2004, a biology professor was stopped by airport security. They found a severed harbor seal head in his carry-on luggage.
This man claims he found a dead seal while on holiday. He severed its head and intended to use it for educational purposes, teaching students as they studied marine mammals.
However, cutting a part from a dead animal is not entirely legal, and transporting parts of an animal is even less legal.
Eventually, he was allowed to board the plane, but his seal head was confiscated.
Tarantulas
Security staff at Amsterdam Airport found two hundred live tarantulas in a German couple's luggage, along with grasshoppers, millipedes and beetles.
According to local media reports, the couple were waiting for their connecting flight back from Peru when customs officers at the airport discovered the animals during a routine luggage scan. It is not yet clear what happened. What the couple plans to do with their overseas shopping.
