In November 1959, Baoting County was restored and affiliated to the Hainan Administrative Office.

In February 1962, the Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was restored, and Baoting County was affiliated to the Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. In December 1987, the Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture was abolished, and in the same month, Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County was established, subordinate to the Hainan Administrative Region. In April 1988, it was affiliated to Hainan Province.
