Adrienne clarkson's introduction
Adrienne Clarkson, formerly known as Wu Bingzhi, was born in Hong Kong, and her ancestral home is Taishan, Guangdong. She is an outstanding Chinese-American and a former governor of Canada (the head of state of Canada is the Queen of England, and the governor is the Queen's representative in Canada, that is, acting as the head of state, which is equivalent to the president or chairman of the country, mostly in a courtesy position). She is the first Chinese-American and the second female governor of Canada. Wu Bingzhi is a native of Guangfu, because her father has British nationality. He was an exchanged prisoner of war between Britain and Japan in wartime. The Wu family immigrated to Canada in 1942 with a "special case" that allowed Chinese to enter the country in the Chinese Immigration Act of 1923. Wu Bingzhi attended public schools in Ottawa and entered the University of Toronto in 1956. During her college years, she was awarded the English Literature Prize by the then Governor-General. Wu Bingzhi started her master's program at the College of Arts and Sciences of Paris University in 1962. Her thesis is a poem by Meredith.
