South Korea's military service system is age-appropriate. Did immigrants need military service in the past?

Korean male citizens between the ages of 20 and 30 must perform military service. Different arms have different service periods, but the shortest arms also need to serve for 24 months. South Korea implements the male conscription system.

The service period of each service of the National Army of the Republic of Korea is 24 months for the Army and Marine Corps, 26 months for the Navy and 28 months for the Air Force.

Korean men who have reached the age of 19 must undergo military service physical examination (not physical fitness test), score on the spot (similar to the previous conscription examination in Japan, which is divided into A, B and C), and notify the serving men.

"Conscientious objectors" will be sentenced to imprisonment.

Those who fail the physical examination, those who have special performance in sports or academic performance, and some who have obtained permanent residency abroad and stayed in China for less than one year may be exempted from military service.

During the service, the training and daily life are extremely difficult, and the monthly allowance is only about 180 yuan.

At present, the Government of the Republic of Korea is studying a plan to shorten the length of military service.
