Migration route of Han refugees in the late Western Jin Dynasty
At the end of the Northern Song Dynasty, Song Gaozong crossed the river and established Lin 'an (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang) as its capital, and scholars from the Central Plains moved south.
Fujian Province
In Fujian, there is a saying that "eight surnames entered Fujian".
During the Three Kingdoms, the Jin Dynasty and the Southern and Northern Dynasties, China was always in a state of separatist regime and local separatist regime. At this time, there were frequent wars in the Central Plains, and the people were displaced. The political situation in Fujian, which is located in the southeast corner, is relatively stable, so a large number of Zhongyuan people moved south to Fujian.
In the second year of Yongjia (308), Han people from the Central Plains began to enter Fujian on a large scale. The eight main surnames in Fujian are Lin, Chen, Huang, Zheng, Zhan, Qiu, He and Hu.
Du Nan, Guan Yi, is the first large-scale southward migration of Han nationality in the Central Plains, and it is also a great integration of Han nationality in the north and Fujian people. Eight surnames entered Fujian, and quite a few people settled in Fuzhou, which more than doubled the population of Jin 'an County. Daojing was Lin's residence and Huang's residence at that time. There are still some of their genealogies.
These immigrants brought the Central Plains culture and advanced production technology, which promoted the social and economic development of Fuzhou.
South of the Yangtze river
The Eastern Jin Dynasty made its capital in Jiangnan, and a large number of gentry took root in Jiangnan from North China to the south. When the gentry in North China went, they were called overseas Chinese in history, and the top leaders were Wang Langya, Jun, Yuan Runan and Ling, who were collectively called "Wang, Xie, Yuan and Xiao". In particular, Wang and Xie first followed the Jin family to move south to Huiji (now Shaoxing), so they were able to grasp the power center of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in time.
The northern gentry were led by Cui and Lu. Cui Helu has a huge family and many industries, and almost no one has moved south. Later, Cui and Lu were more influential in North China, which is why the surnames of Cui and Lu were not seen in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Liu Yuxi said that "Wang Xie died in front of the hall in the old society and flew into the homes of ordinary people", which made the world know only "Xie Wang" but not "Cuilu".
