Is half of the people in Hong Kong foreigners?
I am a native of Hong Kong, so I will try to answer it!
According to the 2006 census conducted by the Census and Statistics Department, there were 6,251,159 Chinese permanent residents in Hong Kong, accounting for 94% of the total population of 6,645,220 at that time. There are countless other nationalities including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, Thailand, India, etc. The largest number is from the Philippines, with more than 100,000 people.
However, most residents born in Hong Kong are originally from the Mainland. The grandparents of many of my friends and I are residents of Guangdong. They lived in Hong Kong during the war. They were outsiders at the time, but now they have settled down.
