What are the duties of the captain?

The master shall ensure that the personnel on board comply with the immigration and customs regulations, and be responsible for providing complete and accurate logbooks, reports, statements and documents to ensure compliance with the safety plan formulated by the International Maritime Organization for the needs of ships. The plan sets out everyone's responsibilities, including conducting searches and inspections, maintaining limited space and responding to threats from terrorists, hijackers, pirates and stowaways. The security plan also includes other topics, such as refugees and asylum seekers, and dealing with smugglers and saboteurs. Finally, the captain is responsible for solving any medical problems, providing medical care for the affected passengers and crew, cooperating with the medical staff on the shore as much as possible, and evacuating those passengers and crew who need more assistance when necessary.

The captain ensures that the ship complies with local and international laws and company policies. The captain is ultimately responsible for the operation of the ship, such as the safe navigation of the ship, the cleanliness and seaworthiness of the ship, the safe handling of all goods, the management of all personnel, the inventory of the ship's cash and shops, and the maintenance of the ship's certificates and documents. If there is no treasurer on board, the captain is responsible for the accounting work on board. This includes ensuring that there is enough cash on board, coordinating wages on board (including withdrawal and advance payment), and managing the discharge of dirty oil on board.
