The first three types of immigrants are the most common for people born in Chinese mainland. Chinese mainland was not included in the immigration lottery. Amnesty for immigrants is hard-won, and now it's just talk. Joining the army to emigrate sounds a bit heroic and may be a shortcut for some people.
