De Villepin believes that only in this way can we select international students who are "the best and most suitable for the needs of France". De Villepin also believes that the current French immigration law stipulates that foreign immigrants who have legally lived in France for more than 1 year have the right to let their families live in France in the name of "family reunion". The one-year period in this regulation is too short and should be "extended to two years".
