How to apply for a retirement visa in Thailand

There are two ways for foreigners over 50 to apply for a temporary residence visa (non-immigrant visa code O-A) in Thailand, that is, to apply in a foreign country or to apply in Thailand.

1. Foreign application

Foreigners can apply for visas at Thai embassies and consulates abroad and need to prepare the following documents: (1) visa application form. (2) A copy of the passport, or a certificate that replaces the passport, with the validity period exceeding 1 June. (3) Having a bank deposit equivalent to not less than 800,000 baht or a monthly income of not less than 65,000 baht, or having a bank deposit and [(monthly/income) x 12] * * * not less than 800,000 baht. Thai embassies and consulates abroad will send the application materials to the Immigration Bureau for review after receiving the application. After the examination, the Immigration Bureau shall notify the Foreign Affairs Visa Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the relevant embassies and consulates abroad within 7 working days.

2. Application in Thailand

(1) The hospital or nursing home is responsible for the application. (2) An application is made by an institution or unit recognized by the Immigration Bureau. (3) The application shall be made by the foreigner's parents, spouse or family members of the child under guardianship. Applications in the above three cases must be submitted to Room 3, Group 2, Immigration Bureau 1 Section 4, Jinghe Road, Bangkok (tel: +66(0)2287 4948).

The following documents should be available:

2. 1 A written letter from a hospital or sanatorium to apply for a visa (1). (2) Copy of passport or passport replacement certificate, valid for not less than 1 year and 6 months. (3) The bank deposit is equivalent to not less than 800,000 baht, or the monthly salary is not less than 65,000 baht, or the deposit and [(monthly/income) x 12] are not less than 800,000 baht.

2.2 The agency recognized by the Immigration Bureau shall apply on its behalf and submit all the documents required for the application of the hospital or nursing home, as shown in item 2. 1. 2.3 Parents, spouses and legitimate children of foreigners may apply on their behalf.

Remarks: The end of review will be notified within 7 working days after the end of review. If it is approved, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be notified to inform the Thai embassy or consulate where the foreigner is going to apply for a visa, and the foreigner will be informed to remit money according to the regulations, and he will show the remittance voucher or prove that he will bring money into Thailand in order to obtain a visa.
