Nanxi Town was established in August 1988. It is the youngest town in Hekou. It is located in the northeast of Hekou County, bordering Laofanzhai Township to the northwest, Maguan County to the north, and Vietnam to the southeast. It is adjacent to the Socialist Republic of China, with a 60-kilometer border line and 18 kilometers away from the county seat. The town covers an area of ??258 square kilometers. The Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and Kunming River Highway pass through the town, making it the window gateway and transportation hub of Hekou County. Nanxi Town has jurisdiction over more than 30 provincial, state, and county units, including the state-owned Machubao Farm and Nanxi Farm. There are 15 ethnic groups living in the jurisdiction, including Miao, Yao, Buyi, and Han. It is a multi-ethnic town.
