What religions were there in the Tang Dynasty?

In the early Tang Dynasty, Li Yuan linked his family ancestors with Laozi (Li Er), so he regarded Taoism since Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties as the most respected state religion.

The Tang Dynasty inherited most of the cultural traditions of the Sui Dynasty and the Northern Dynasties. Buddhism flourished in the Tang Dynasty because both the Sui Dynasty and the previous Northern Dynasties worshipped Buddhism.

During the reign of Emperor Taizong, Nestorianism in the Western Regions (that is, Nestorius, a heretical sect of Christianity and Catholicism) entered China with the caravan, and had the intention of establishing its own sacrificial temple in Chang 'an, China.

The Tang dynasty was a powerful force in the western regions, when there were many Zoroastrians among all ethnic groups in the western regions. Therefore, during the reign of Emperor Taizong, Emperor Taizong allowed him to establish his own worship temple in Chang 'an, which was reflected in historical books, documents unearthed in Dunhuang, cave inscriptions and other historical materials.

However, with the extinction of Buddhism by Wu Zong, many foreign religions and Buddhism were attacked and destroyed at the same time in China, and Buddhism revived because it could not be truly eradicated because of its long-term spread.

Because of frequent communication between Tang and Persia, Arabs and Persians in the Middle East settled in China in large numbers, and their religious belief Islam began to appear in China, but it was mainly spread among these immigrants in the long-term cities at that time, and China people believed very little.

With Islam and the caravan from the western regions entering China, there are Jews and their religions. According to "Examination of Chinese Jews", Jewish businessmen settled in China in the Tang Dynasty.
