Where was Huazhou today in ancient times?

In ancient times, Huazhou was in and around today’s Huazhou District, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province.

In the 11th year of Huataihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (487), Huazhou was established and governed Li Runbao (now northeast of Pucheng County, Shaanxi Province). In the third year of Yongping (510), Huazhou was moved to Huayin County (the seat of Huayin County at that time was now Dali County, Shaanxi Province). Its jurisdiction is equivalent to the area west of the Yellow River, south of Huanglong County, east of Pucheng County and Hua County, and north of Huashan Mountain in present-day Shaanxi Province.

In the second year of the deposed emperor of the Western Wei Dynasty (553), Huazhou was renamed Tongzhou. In the third year of the deposed emperor (554), Dongyongzhou was changed to Huazhou, which governed Zheng County (today's Huazhou, Shaanxi). Huashan County, Baishui County.

During the Sui Dynasty, Huashan County was abolished in the third year of Kaihuang (583), and Huazhou was abolished in the third year of Daye (607). In the first year of Yining (617), Zhengxian County and Huayin County of Jingzhao County were cut off, and Huashan County was restored.

In the Tang Dynasty, in the first year of Wude (618), Huashan County was changed to Huazhou, and Weinan County of Yongzhou was ceded to it. In the fifth year of Wude (622), Weinan County was restored to Yongzhou. In the first year of Chuigong (685), Xiagui County of Tongzhou (today's north of Weihe River in Linwei District) was ceded to Huazhou. Huazhou administered three counties: Zhengxian, Huayin (including Tongguan) and Xiagui. The state government was in Zhengxian. In the second year of Chuigong (686), Huazhou was renamed Taizhou. In the first year of Shenlong (705), the old name of Huazhou was restored. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Huazhou was changed to Huayin County. In the first year of Qianyuan (758), it was renamed Huazhou. In the second year of Shangyuan (761), the name was changed again to Taizhou. In the first year of Baoying (762), the old name of Huazhou was restored. In the fourth year of Qianning (897), Huazhou was promoted to Xingdefu. In the third year of Tianyou (906), it was changed to Huazhou. . In the Tang Dynasty, the seat of Zheng County was in the west of present-day Hua County, and the seat of Huazhou was in present-day Hua County in the first year of Yongtai (765).

During the Five Dynasties, Huazhou administered Zheng County, Huayin and Xiagui. In the third year of Xiande of the Later Zhou Dynasty (956), Weinan County was transferred to Huazhou.

In the Northern Song Dynasty, in the fourth year of Tianxi (1020), Pucheng County of Tongzhou was ceded to it. The state government was still located in Zhengxian County, with jurisdiction over Zhengxian County, Xiagui, Huayin, Pucheng and Weinan.

During the Jin Dynasty, the state governance and counties under the jurisdiction of Huazhou were the same as those in the Northern Song Dynasty.

During the Yuan Dynasty, Zheng County was abolished and its territory was under the direct jurisdiction of Huazhou. Huazhou belongs to Fengyuan Road, Xingzhongshu Province, Shaanxi and other places (the administrative seat is today's Xi'an City), and has jurisdiction over three counties: Pucheng, Huayin, and Weinan (including Xiagui). The state government is in today's Hua County.

During the Ming Dynasty, Huazhou was under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi and other places and became the official envoy to Xi'an. In the early Ming Dynasty, it governed Huayin, Pucheng and Weinan. In the seventh year of Hongwu (1374), Luonan came to belong to it. In the thirteenth year of Chenghua (1477), Luonan was changed to Shangzhou (the administrative seat is now Shang County). In the thirty-eighth year of Jiajing (1559), Weinan was changed to be directly subordinate to Xi'an Prefecture. The state government of Huazhou is in today's Hua County.

During the Qing Dynasty, before the third year of Yongzheng (1725), Huazhou belonged to Xi'an Prefecture of Shaanxi Province. Three years after Yongzheng, Huazhou was promoted to Zhili Prefecture, with jurisdiction over three counties: Pucheng, Huayin and Tongguan. After the first year of Qianlong (1736), Huazhou no longer had counties and was reduced to scattered states, under the jurisdiction of Tongzhou Prefecture (the seat of governance is today's Dali County).

During the Republic of China, in February of the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Huazhou was renamed Hua County, which was under the jurisdiction of Guanzhong Road, Shaanxi Province. In the sixteenth year of the Republic of China (1927), the road was withdrawn from the whole country and was directly under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province. In the 28th year of the Republic of China (1939), it belonged to the Office of the Eighth Administrative Inspectorate of Shaanxi Province (the administrative seat is now Dali County). In August of the 37th year of the Republic of China (1948), the Office of the Second Administrative Inspectorate of Shaanxi Province was established in Hua County. It governs Huaxian, Huayin, Tongguan, Weinan, Lintong and Lantian.

After May 1949, it belonged to the Weinan Division Administrative Inspectorate Office of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region Government. In May 1950, it was affiliated to the Weinan District Commissioner's Office of Shaanxi Province. In October 1956, the Commissioner's Office was abolished and Huaxian County was directly under the jurisdiction of Shaanxi Province. In January 1959, Hua County merged with Weinan, Huayin and Tongguan and was called Weinan County. The original Hua County was divided into three people's communes: Huazhou, Gaotang and Jindui. In September 1961, the organizational system of Huaxian County was restored and it belonged to the reestablished Weinan Commissioner's Office. In 1968, it was affiliated to the Weinan Regional Revolutionary Committee. In 1980, it belonged to the Weinan Prefectural Administrative Office. In January 2016, Hua County was removed from the county and established as a district to become Huazhou District of Weinan City.
