Why do Japanese respect and fear Hakkas? What do they say about Hakkas?

For nearly a century and a half, Japanese people are very keen on Hakka studies, and have published a large number of books and papers, including immigration history, South China regional studies, overseas Chinese studies and so on. As well as public welfare-oriented reading materials such as Hakka's clothing, food, shelter, transportation and even skills in dealing with people, as well as some literary works on Hakka themes.

Among them, their understanding of Hakka has gone through the process from ignorance to "sit up and take notice", and then to the coexistence of singing praise and rational thinking. Nowadays, "Hakka dialect" is not well known in Japan, but it is no longer a completely unfamiliar vocabulary. All Japanese who are interested in China's history and culture basically know "Hakka".

1932, the Sino-Japanese War broke out between Songhu and Shanghai, and the 19th Route Army stationed in Shanghai fought back. After 33 days of bloody fighting, Japan was forced to change its commander-in-chief, breaking the "invincible myth" of the Japanese army. The Japanese militaristic government found that the 19th Route Army in Shanghai was basically composed of Hakkas, which further strengthened the Japanese investigation and study of Hakkas and soon formed a monograph on Hakka studies.

At the end of the same year (65438+ Showa 7 February), the Information Department of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs published A Study of Hakka in Guangdong compiled by the Japanese Imperial Consulate in Guangdong. This book points out that the tenacious anti-Japanese thought of the 19th Route Army is rooted in the Hakka people's strong national pride and traditional xenophobia. As the first Japanese in history, Hakkas "maintain the pride of the Central Plains", are not easy to integrate with other ethnic groups, maintain Chinese thoughts, despise the earliest Nanan people, have a strong fighting spirit, and are even full of xenophobic thoughts.
