/kloc-0 was renamed "Northwest Institute of Soil and Water Conservation of China Academy of Sciences" in July, 1964, with the task of "focusing on the scientific research of soil and water conservation in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, mainly studying and solving related problems such as soil and water conservation measures, laws of soil erosion, comprehensive management of soil and water conservation, rational use of land in areas with serious soil erosion and agricultural production increase, and continuing to classify plants according to the needs of soil and water conservation in Northwest Agricultural Production Law and the original working basis.

1979 10 was renamed "Northwest Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, China Academy of Sciences", with the task of "facing the loess plateau, focusing on soil and water conservation, carrying out research on the law of soil and water loss prediction and prevention, evaluation of rational utilization of soil and water resources, theory and technology of vegetation restoration, and system and foundation for increasing production of dry farming, so as to serve the comprehensive development of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry in the loess plateau and radically cure the Yellow River".

1987, led by China Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Water Resources, was renamed "Northwest Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Ministry of Water Resources, China Academy of Sciences", with the direction and task of "still focusing on the loess plateau, taking the task of soil and water conservation as the main line, in order to improve the ecological environment of the loess plateau, accelerate the comprehensive development of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, and serve the Yellow River management. At the same time, considering that soil erosion in China is very serious, Northwest Institute of Soil and Water Conservation can properly take into account the scientific research tasks of soil and water conservation in other regions.
