Tax refund for overseas shopping means that tourists have the right to apply for tax refund abroad (generally between 6% and 25%) after buying a certain amount of goods in other countries and bringing them back to China intact. Because the amount paid by tourists when shopping includes local value-added tax or consumption tax, and these taxes are only levied on residents of their own country (region). Of course, tourists need to pay a handling fee ranging from 3% to 5% (the standard is determined by each country).

Then, when tourists leave the destination country (if it is the EU, it can be handled in the last EU country), they must show their unused items (never check them away), invoices and tourist passports to the customs officials of that country. If qualified, the customs officials will stamp the customs clearance stamp on the tourists' global tax refund cheque.

There are several ways to refund tax. Visitors can choose the nearest cash refund office of Global Return Group (generally located next to the customs) to receive the cash refund immediately, or they can ask for direct transfer to the designated bank card (which requires dual currency), or send the bank check to the address designated by the tourists, or even complete the cash refund at the designated bank in Shanghai or Beijing after returning home (no additional handling fee).
