Work permit (r permit)
Work permit shall be handled and approved by the Work Permit Office of the Human Resources Department. According to the current laws and regulations, any employer who intends to hire foreign workers with a monthly salary of not more than S $2,000 must apply for a work permit.
The employment situation of work permit holders is limited by labor tax and the maximum number of foreign workers allowed in various industries. The dock industry has the highest proportion of migrant workers, and the ratio of migrant workers to local full-time workers can be as high as 9: 1. Followed by construction industry 5: 1, marine industry 3: 1, manufacturing industry 1. According to the service industry, migrant workers can only account for 30% of the company's total employees.

Under the existing framework, work permit is also called R permit. Among them, the R 1 license is issued to foreign workers with at least professional third-class technician certificate (NTC-3) or equivalent qualifications, that is, semi-skilled workers; R2 license is issued to foreign workers who do not meet the requirements of R 1 license, that is, unskilled workers. Work permit holders are not allowed to bring their families to Singapore.
