How long will it take to get a green card after marrying a Canadian?

Hello, according to CIC's regulations, if you marry a Canadian citizen, both parties can apply to CIC as soon as possible after marriage to grant you permanent resident status (Maple Leaf Card). This kind of immigration is called family responsibility (the word responsibility refers to your husband's guarantee to you).

Depending on where you apply, the processing time will be different. If you apply in Canada, the current estimated processing time is 17 months (from the date when the complete application is accepted by CIC). If you apply outside Canada, the application cycle is divided into two steps. The first step is a preliminary examination of your husband (about 34 days), and the second step is a further detailed examination.
