The Jewish Millennium (14)

1In the autumn of 922, the League of Nations announced that the British Mandate on Palestine came into effect.

In any case, Jews still believe that Zionism has been officially recognized by the British and has political legitimacy. Jews began to plan a new country in full swing, and the first problem was population growth.

At the end of World War I, there were 600,000 Arabs and 60,000 Jews in Palestine. A large number of Jews who were excluded from Europe heard of the Balfour Declaration and set foot on their way home. By 1936, there were already 370,000 Jews in Palestine, but the Arabs also called many brothers to help. At this time there were 1 10,000 Arabs in Palestine.

In the face of more and more Jews, Palestinian Arabs feel threatened. The Arabs complained to the British, and the Jews sat down to chat with the Arabs, but it was useless. Issues left over from history cannot be properly discussed.

Arabs in Jerusalem are constantly rising. Every uprising, Britain sent people to listen to their complaints: "Jews stole our land!" " "Jews have money and like to buy cheap land to settle in Palestine, swamps, saline-alkali land and so on. Jews come up with land sales contracts, Arabs do not recognize modern contracts, and can only say that this has been our Arab land since ancient times.

After listening to more complaints and watching more conflicts, Britain gradually realized that two peoples could not live together in a narrow land, and the best solution was to divide Palestine into an Arab country and a Jewish country.

The British put forward a plan: Arabs get 70% of Palestinian land, Jews get 20%, and the remaining 10% is the most conflict-prone Jerusalem area, which is controlled by the British. However, Arabs and Jews were unwilling to share each other's land, which caused considerable conflict and was finally put on hold.

Soon after the German Nazi Party came to power, the British became nervous. In order to prevent Arabs from turning to Germans when World War II is about to break out, Britain intends to send some friendly signals to Arabs. Britain issued a white paper, claiming that the British government will establish an Arab state in Palestine within 10, and Jews are not allowed to immigrate to Palestine without the permission of Arabs.

After the end of World War II, Jews who survived the Holocaust are more eager to establish a persecuted Jewish state in Palestine as soon as possible. Arabs are also very helpless: we sympathize with Jews, but it is Germans who slaughter Jews. Why not draw a piece of land from Germany to build their country? Why us?

The vacillation and contradiction of the British turned the Middle East into a powder keg that exploded from time to time. The British themselves, although they won World War II, were greatly reduced in national strength and unable to maintain peace in Palestine as before.

Finally, the chaos I caused was unmanageable. After drawing a straight line on the map with a pencil for 32 years, 1947, Britain decided to give up and hand over the Palestinian issue to the United Nations, which was just established two years ago.

After the United Nations took over the Palestinian area, it put forward the same plan as Britain: dividing the Palestinian area into an Arab country and a Jewish country. The League of Arab States is firmly opposed to the partition plan, and they just want to enjoy the Palestinian area.

The Palestinian area that Britain originally promised to Jews included a part of the outer Jordan territory, that is, the area east of the Jordan River. This foreign Jordanian territory was previously used by the British to appease the Arabs and restrict France. In the partition plan of the United Nations, 60% of the territory of Palestine was given to Jews, except Jordan, but a large part of this land is barren in the Negev desert.

1947 United Nations Partition Plan Blue: Jewish State; Yellow: Arab countries

Many western countries have some guilt and sympathy for Jews, especially after seeing Hitler's behavior, they all voted for the partition plan of the United Nations. The United Nations General Assembly ended with 1947, with 33 votes in favor, 13 votes against and 10 abstentions, and adopted the partition plan for Palestine.

For Zionists, this is not a good result, but it means that the establishment of the Jewish state has been supported by the international community and they decided to accept this plan. The Arabs insisted on getting the whole of Palestine, and they chose to prevent the implementation of United Nations resolutions through undeclared war.

1947 May 14, the day when the last British troops left Palestine, the Jewish leadership officially declared the independence of the State of Israel.

Only 1 1 minute after Israel declared its independence, the United States took the lead in recognizing this newborn country. A few hours later, five Arab troops from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq invaded Israel.

The United States supports the partition agreement of the United Nations and the independence of Israel, but they are still afraid of being enemies with Arabs, so they are unwilling to provide weapons to Jews. American Jews have given great help to the emerging state of Israel.

When declaring independence, Israel's defense forces (actually militia) numbered only 6,000, of which only 3,000 were fully armed and well prepared. Britain is actually on the side of the Arab countries, and the Arab army can easily get weapons from the British. Even the Arab army in Jordan was trained and led by British officers.

The United Nations quickly announced a one-month ceasefire order. During this period, Israel seized the time to form the Defence Force. From 65438 to 0949, Jews successfully defended their new country, signed ceasefire agreements with Arab neighbors, and demarcated temporary borders. In the next five Middle East wars, Israel lost less and won more, and continued to expand its territory.
