Comprehensive information on the Autonomous Region of Asturias
The Autonomous Region of Asturias (Asturian: Principau d'Asturies or Asturies) is one of the autonomous regions and provinces in Spain, with a history of more than 3,500 years. The region is bounded by the Cantabrian Sea to the north, Castile and León to the south, Galicia to the west, and Cantabria to the east.
The Cantabrian Mountains are the natural dividing line between the provinces of Asturias and León. The Picos de Europa (Top of Europe) National Park contains the 2,648-meter-high Torrecerredo Peak. Basic introduction Chinese name: Asturias Autonomous Region Foreign name: Principau d'Asturies or Asturies Administrative category: Autonomous Region*** Residence: Oviedo Geographical location: North to the Cantabrian Sea, south to Castile Lia and Leon, adjacent to Galicia to the west Climate conditions: Mediterranean climate History, geography, economy, celebrities, transportation, history In the 18th century, it was one of the centers of the Spanish Enlightenment. The Industrial Revolution developed Asturias' coal and iron resources. It officially became an autonomous region of Spain on January 11, 1982. Geography The location of Asturias in Spain has a long coastline with many sandy beaches. A famous example is Playa del Silencio (Silent Beach). Most of the beaches are clean and surrounded by cliffs, and livestock are often seen grazing in the high areas. The climate is similar to other areas in northwest Spain, with warm and humid summers. In the mountains, there is snow from November to May. There is often rain and sunshine in winter. Economy Coal mining, steel and fishing were once the main economic pillars here. The dairy industry and related industries are not weak either. During the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, the region's main industrial steel industry was one of the strongest in the world. The former regionally controlled company ENSIDESA has become part of the private company ARCELOR. The strong industry created a large number of jobs and attracted many immigrants from other regions such as Castile and Leon, Andalusia and Extremadura. But the industry has declined due to competition in Eastern Europe, high manufacturing costs and reduced global demand for steel. Even though the growth of the service industry in recent years has alleviated the originally high unemployment rate, regional economic growth is still lower than the national growth. However, the construction industry is booming, with more retail plazas opening in the region's major cities. Since 1986, it has benefited from EU investment in roads and other infrastructure.
