Marriage age for Chinese Americans and Chinese citizens

1. According to the general principles of private international law, the conditions for marriage shall be governed by the law of the place where the marriage was concluded.

2. It is certain that when Chinese Americans and Chinese citizens register their marriage in China, the laws of the People's Republic of China will apply.

Moreover, even if an American is married to a Chinese citizen in China, the laws of the People’s Republic of China, namely the Marriage Law of the People’s Republic of China, must be applied

3. "Marriage age for Chinese Americans and Chinese citizens": men over 22 years old and women over 20 years old.

4. The materials required for marriage procedures are:

(1) Household register, ID card, and marriage status certificate of Chinese citizens;

(2) Passport or other identity and nationality documents of Chinese Americans; "Residence Permit for Foreigners" issued by the Chinese public security organs, or identity documents issued by the foreign affairs department, or entry and residence documents for temporary visits to China;

A certificate of marital status issued by a notary public in your country, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or an agency authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and our embassy or consulate in that country, or a certificate of marital status issued by the embassy or consulate of that country in China.

5. Application procedures: Bring the above materials and go to the Civil Affairs Bureau designated by the provincial government where the Chinese citizen has a registered permanent residence or permanent residence to apply for marriage registration.
