Why did I choose to settle in Canada?

There is no doubt that there are many job opportunities in the United States, and it can indeed provide a good career platform for young people who have just debuted. However, for me who has worked in the United States and Canada for many years, it is not difficult to gain a foothold in Canada.

Interestingly, opportunities in the United States are also open to Canadian talents, so there is no special difference between job opportunities in the United States and Canada. This is not only because it is easy for Canadians to apply for a TN visa in the United States, but also because modern technology has made it popular to work from home.

For example, a medium-sized company with 100 employees that I have worked for in the past two years is an American company with its headquarters in California, but its CEO is Canadian and its employees are all over the United States and Canada, especially those above the vice president level. Except for me, none of them are in California headquarters. Usually, everyone works from home, contacts Skype through conference calls, and goes to California from time to time to express condolences to employees there. Funnily enough, the place where everyone meets the most is actually the client's conference room.

Coincidentally, in April this year, I resigned and was pregnant for one year. Just as I was about to make a comeback, a man came to ask me to take office. This man is Canadian too, but he is the CEO of an American company.

. This time, I decided not to move to the rainy Washington headquarters, but to stay at home and work, while continuing to prepare for pregnancy.

So although I live in Canada, I don't feel that there is much difference in job opportunities between the United States and Canada. [Social welfare] Bitter! For those of us who work to support ourselves, there is no social welfare in the United States or Canada. Every time I see those compatriots "rich people" who live in luxury houses countless times taller than me, I always feel sorry for the expensive taxes they donate every month.

But as I get older, I can enjoy a little welfare, that is, medical insurance. At this point, I deeply felt the advantages of Canada.

In the United States, medical insurance is generally linked to the company's collective insurance. Each company pays part of the money and sends the bill to the insurance company for reimbursement after seeing a doctor. Once you lose your job and your savings are as low as 3,000 yuan, you have to buy your own medical insurance. Personal medical insurance is very expensive. For example, I have arranged a business trip to Europe. Because the company's medical insurance procedures have not been completed, I have to buy medical insurance covering international accidents for one month at my own expense, and the cost is 600 dollars.

. Therefore, in such an environment as the United States, I absolutely dare not resign for pregnancy. The cost of medical insurance is definitely not a small expense.

In Canada, these are not problems. A medical insurance card covers almost all medical expenses, from colds and fever to surgery, all free of charge. Because of this, I have the courage to resign. So far, all the expenses are limited to buying medicine.

Some people say that in Canada, you will wait for the dead. I think the key is that individuals take the initiative. Here is a practical example. Last year, I found that I needed a minor operation. The expert recommended a surgeon to me and said that he would contact me. As a result, I waited for a month and there was no reply. I looked up this doctor with a good reputation online, called myself to make an appointment, and then told the assistant of the specialty the contact result. In this way, I waited for a month and finally met the surgeon in the first week.

The development of the next story accelerated. After seeing the doctor, I told her that I really wanted to have an operation as soon as possible in order to continue the more important specialist treatment below. As a result, the doctor asked the front desk and said there was a waiting list in two days.

Let me wait for the news. The next day, the news came, telling me to take blood tests immediately, and then operate on the third day. So, I finished the operation in three days, and the progress was not affected at all by the specialist's assistant (I later learned that the assistant was a famous "forgetful lady" in that clinic). Of course, I didn't have to pay a penny.

According to the proportion of population, the educational resources of the United States and Canada are actually similar, and there are also many excellent schools in medicine, science and engineering and finance in Canada. But many American schools are world-famous, and their gold-lettered signboards are very popular in China. Therefore, there are not a few families who want to send their children to Harvard with the help of the whole family. Fortunately, however, the door of Harvard is open to the whole world. Unlike state universities, this kind of super-prestigious schools don't waive tuition fees because they are Americans, so it doesn't make much difference whether they are Americans or not.

However, I still feel more at ease that I will put my child in Canada for basic education in the future, and then choose whether to go to a famous American school when he/she is old enough to think for herself. The main will is these two points:

First, many kindergartens in Canada are bilingual in French and English, and these children can easily master two languages in the natural growth environment; And because there are many immigrants from all over the world in Canada, some private primary schools also have bilingual education, which can help children not forget their national languages. For example, my colleagues, such as Stan, sent their daughters to a private school that teaches Arabic (unfortunately, Chinese learning seems to be just an extracurricular school that opens on weekends).

Secondly, because there are more immigrants in Canada and a greater tolerance for all races, there are few incidents in which Chinese children are bullied at school. But in some parts of the United States, this inconspicuous racial discrimination has always existed, leading to some extreme examples. [living environment]

Speaking of living environment, many people say that "Canada is too cold", which is actually very funny. Take China as an example. In our university dormitory, it is a Jilin person who cries "cold" all day. Because there is no heating in the area south of the Yangtze River, northerners find it completely unbearable. So, which place is more uncomfortable can't just look at the absolute temperature.

Winter in Toronto is not difficult at all, because there is heating everywhere. In April and May, spring blossoms, green leaves and colorful flowers everywhere are very pleasing to the eye. Summer is the most comfortable season, and it won't feel hot at all. There are various programs every weekend, from JazzFestival.

, to the Greek Festival, to the Dragon Boat Festival, to the gay parade. ...

It's a big gathering of people all over the world, and it's a gathering every weekend.

. Autumn is the most beautiful season. Watching the leaves turn yellow and red, the scenery is the last luster of nature before it is silent. I like this city with four distinct seasons very much.

The natural environment in the United States is also very good. There is not much difference between the two places. But when it comes to social living environment, we have to mention security issues. In this respect, Canada is much better than the United States. The gun control in the United States is so lax that shootings are everywhere, even kindergarten children, cinemas and schools are not spared, which is really worrying. There are such things in Canada, but many of them are gang fights, which will not hurt innocent people.

Finally, I think the biggest difference is that Canadians are very friendly.

. This impression originally came from the US-Canada Customs where I entered and exited Buffalo. At Canadian customs, this is a greeting to go home. In the United States, it was the police who interrogated the prisoners, even my thin woman who had no hands to tie the chicken. In addition, it is also obvious in other small things.

Let's give a black example. Black Americans seem to be particularly arrogant and discriminate against China people. I once experienced a little black girl who kept calling me "China" at the long-distance bus station. If it weren't for her age, I would have slapped her. In Canada, all the black people I meet are like happy people. Whether they are waiters in McDonald's or colleagues in the company, they are very kind and never insult China people.

Perhaps it is because there are too many immigrants in Canada, and everyone has had the initial bitter experience, so they are particularly gentle with others.

After comparing these, I finally decided to settle in Canada.
