Yongtai is the largest county in Fuzhou, covering an area of 2,243.4 square kilometers. It is larger than Xiamen and close to Putian, equivalent to 0.2 Quanzhou. Yongtai has a long history and rich culture.

On May 26th, 20021,the National Development and Reform Commission agreed in principle to the Development Plan of Fuzhou Metropolitan Area. According to the plan, the people's governments of Fuzhou, Putian, Nanping, Ningde and Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone Management Committee are responsible subjects of Fuzhou metropolitan area.

Therefore, Yongtai is of course in Fuzhou metropolitan area.
