Development of ANZ Bank in China

The relationship between ANZ and China stems from the establishment of correspondent bank relationship with Bank of China in 1948.

ANZ has full-service banking branches in Shanghai and Beijing, focusing on trade and investment between Australia and New Zealand, regional trade financing and financial services for foreigners.

ANZ plans to establish strategic cooperation with two local commercial banks in China. The cooperation strategy of ANZ Bank is to share its professional knowledge and ability to strengthen the existing customer relationship of local partners and develop domestic retail and small business.

This method can be proved by ANZ's cooperation record. ANZ's partners include Pan India Bank in Indonesia and Capital Bank in the Philippines.

ANZ has branches in China, Beijing and Shanghai, and is one of the first foreign banks to enter the China market. ANZ set up an office in Beijing, tel: 1986. 1993 established Shanghai branch, 1997 upgraded Beijing office to a branch. With the approval of the head office of the People's Bank of China, ANZ Shanghai Branch obtained the newly issued Business License for People's Republic of China (PRC) Financial Institutions (Foreign Capital) in 2002 to provide comprehensive foreign exchange business for China residents and Chinese-funded enterprises. At the same time, thanks to the implementation of WTO terms, ANZ Shanghai Branch will expand its business scope from Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Dalian and Tianjin. So far, ANZ is the only bank in Oceania that can provide commercial banking services in China.

ANZ has been committed to the development in Chinese mainland since 1986 set up an office in Beijing. 1993, ANZ Bank Shanghai Branch was formally established. The Beijing representative office was also upgraded to a branch office on 1997.
