Mindong in a broad sense refers to the eastern part of Fujian, including Fuzhou and Ningde. Mindong in a narrow sense is the common name of Ningde, Fujian. Its geographical location is in the northeast of Fujian Province, adjacent to Fuzhou, the provincial capital in the south, facing Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province in the north, Wuyishan in the west and Taiwan Province Island in the east across the sea.

Fujian province is divided into southern Fujian, eastern Fujian, western Fujian, northern Fujian and central Fujian. Mindong refers to the east of Fujian, including Fuzhou and Ningde, and Mindong in a narrow sense refers to Ningde.
