The Huanggutun Incident

At 5:30 in the morning on June 4, 1928, a train bound for Fengtian from Peiping. When the train reached Fengtian Huanggutun Sandong Bridge, a violent explosion occurred on the train. Oh my god, sitting on this train was the Generalissimo of China’s land, sea and air force, Zhang Zuolin, the King of Northeast China.

Zhang Zuolin, also known as Yuting, nicknamed Zhang Laogada, was born from March 19, 1875 to June 4, 1928.

Zhang Zuolin's ancestral home is in Dacheng County, Hebei Province. Some versions say that he is from Shandong. During his grandfather's time, he brought his family to Liaoning through Guandong and settled in Haicheng County, Liaoning Province (now Haicheng City) , their family gave birth to four children in one day, three brothers and one sister. He is an old child.

His father died very early, and later his mother married into a family of veterinarians in Erdaogou Village, Heishan County.

Zhang Zuolin grew up in poverty and worked a lot of hard labor. Later, he studied veterinary medicine with his stepfather. During his medical practice, he came into contact with many people, including Du Lisan, the leader of Qingmakan's bandit, whom he recognized throughout his life. There are dozens of godfathers and godmothers, ranging from the coachman and the bandit leader Du Laopan, to Tian Xiaofeng, the sister of the bandit leader Tian Yuben, who has become a adopted sister, and up to the Northeastern Governor Zhao Erxun.

During the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Zuolin served as a soldier, went to Korea, and fought with the Japanese. After returning from the army, he married Zhao Jiamiao Zhao Chungui is his wife. His father-in-law was very powerful in Zhaojiamiao. At that time, the war was in chaos. Because Zhang Zuolin had been a soldier, Zhaojiamiao established an insurance team. Recommended by his father-in-law, Zhang Zuolin became the insurance captain. Later, the insurance team expanded more and more, with hundreds of people. They were recruited by the Xinmin Mansion of the Qing Dynasty (now Xinmin City, Shenyang). At that time, he was the commander of the fifth battalion, and the deputy commanders were Zhang Zuoxiang, Tang Yulin and others)

Later, he rose through the ranks, took over the command of the 3rd and 7th Battalions, and became the head of the security regiment. Later, due to the recommendation of his godfather Zhao Erxun, he became the commander of the 27th Division.

Zhang Zuolin suppressed bandits in Jilin, Inner Mongolia, and Heilongjiang, and was very effective. He was appointed by Zhao Erxun as the security commander of Fengtian Province. Later, Zhang Zuolin squeezed out his godfather Zhao Erxun and became a veritable Northeastern. king.

Zhang Zuolin fought two Zhili-Fengtian wars. The first time he lost to Wu Peifu, but Zhang Zuolin was not one to admit defeat. He bought many aircraft, warships and artillery from Western Europe, and launched the second Zhili war. During the war, the troops were divided into three groups and captured 200,000 people. The first group was commanded by Zhang Xueliang and Guo Songling. Through aircraft bombing and warship shelling, Guo Songling and Zhang Xueliang invaded from the ninth gate of Shanhaiguan. Wu Peifu was defeated and escaped by boat from Qinhuangdao.

Zhang Zuolin passed through Tianjin, occupied Beijing, squeezed out the Beiyang warlord Feng Yuxiang, reorganized the Beiyang government, invited Duan Qirui from Tianjin to be the prime minister of the government, and appointed many ministers under him. He himself was appointed as the general marshal of land, sea and air, and became The top leader of the country at that time, the fifteenth and last head of state in Beiyang.

Appoint Wu Junsheng as the Governor of Heilongjiang Province, Zhang Zuoxiang as the Governor of Jilin Province, Zhang Zongchang as the Governor of Shandong Province, Tang Yulin as the Governor of Rehe Province, and Jiang Deng as the Governor of Shanghai , Governor of Jianjiang Province, etc.

After Zhang Zuolin became the general marshal of China's land, sea and air force, the Japanese ambassador to China approached Zhang Zuolin and asked him to fulfill the agreement. Among them was a private agreement he signed with the Japanese Kwantung Army. When Guo Songling rebelled, the Japanese Kwantung Army helped Zhang Zuolin. The main content of the agreement is to expand Japan's mining rights in Northeast China, expand Japan's railway operating rights in Northeast China, require Huludao seaport to be managed by Japan, and require a large number of Japanese immigrants. Zhang Zuolin did not agree. He said that I signed it on behalf of an individual, not on behalf of the country, and that this treaty could not be performed for the time being.

Zhang Zuolin was also asked to fulfill the agreement signed by the former Beiyang government. Zhang Zuolin said that I was not the top leader of the country at that time. For the agreement they signed, you have to settle accounts with them. , which made the Japanese representative feel ashamed.

The Japanese saw Zhang Zuolin as a major obstacle to Japan's occupation of Northeast China, and they had to get rid of him. After several studies, the Japanese Prime Minister's Office decided to get rid of Zhang Zuolin and sent the Japanese Kwantung Army to implement it. Japan’s Kwantung Army Headquarters appointed spies Yoshiko Kawashima and Doihara and others to formulate a plan to assassinate Zhang Zuolin, and buried it at Sandong Bridge in Huanggutun. Hundreds of kilograms of explosives.

At that time, the Chinese revolution was raging. The National Revolutionary Army, represented by Sun Yat-sen, launched the Northern Expedition. It was so overwhelming that Zhejiang and Shanghai soon fell.

Zhang Zuolin, who was in Peiping at the time, wanted to return to Fengtian from Peiping for a temporary escape. The route back at that time included taking buses and trains, and passing through After repeated consideration, it was safer to take the train, and a division of security troops was dispatched. From Peking to Fengtian, there was a soldier every 100 meters, which was very reliable.

Zhang Zuolin was seriously injured. His arm had been blown off and his flesh and blood were bloody. He was urgently pulled by car. When he arrived at the Marshal's Mansion, he finally said feebly that Zhang Xueliang should come back from Tianjin as soon as possible. After saying this, he closed his eyes and died. This is how a generation of heroes fell.

There are two questions here. Why are the explosions so accurate? When he set off from Beijing, Japan sent many spies. The Japanese knew exactly where the train went and which carriage he took. The second point is that Huanggutun belongs to the South Manchuria Railway and is under the jurisdiction of the Japanese. It is the junction with the Chinese Railway, so the Chinese army cannot go to the scene. Therefore safety is not guaranteed.

My comment: Zhang Zuolin has made certain historical achievements in defending our country’s territorial sovereignty and national interests. He is a hero of his generation. His sons Zhang Xueliang and Zhang Zuoxiang contributed to Northeastern education. Zhang Xueliang founded Northeastern University and Zhang Zuoxiang founded Jilin University.
