Located in Anji County. The power station is well-known at home and abroad for its unique mountain scenery, superior geographical location, high popularity and good social benefits. The preliminary work of the power station started in1June 1992, officially started in1March 1994, and the first unit was put into operation in1June 1998 with a total construction period of 8 years. It was fully completed and put into operation at the end of February 2000. Tianhuangping hydropower station is magnificent and can be called a masterpiece of the century. It is the one with the largest single unit capacity and the highest head among similar power stations built and under construction in China. It is also the largest pumped storage power station in Asia and the second in the world. The main equipment of the power station is imported from abroad. The power station hub is mainly composed of upper and lower reservoirs, water conveyance system, central control building and underground powerhouse. The reservoir under the power station is located halfway up the mountain, 350 meters above sea level, which was formed by the dam intercepting Xitiaoxi, a tributary of Taihu Lake. It has the reputation of "the green hills on both sides of the strait lead to the smooth lake", and the locals call it "longtan lake". The main building is the heart of the power station. In the mountain between the upper and lower reservoirs of Tianhuangping Power Station, there are 45 caves with a length of 22 kilometers, which constitute the main and auxiliary powerhouse areas of the power station. The whole underground workshop is 200 meters long, 22 meters wide and 47 meters high. Six 300,000 kW units are lined up in a row, forming a spectacular underground workshop landscape. The upper reservoir of the power station is located at the top of the mountain at an altitude of 908 meters. It was dug and filled in more than 1000 mu of depression between Tianhuangping and Shelianling Peak, surrounded by a main dam, four auxiliary dams and a reservoir bank. The whole upper reservoir is pear-shaped. The average water depth is 42.2 meters, and the reservoir capacity is 8.85 million cubic meters, which is equivalent to a West Lake.
