The difference between Sichuan dialect and Putonghua

First of all, they have different purposes:

1, Sichuan dialect is widely used only in Sichuan.

2. Use of Putonghua: Putonghua is commonly used throughout the country.

Second, they come from different sources:

1. The origin of Sichuan dialect: Today's Sichuan dialect was gradually evolved and merged from Sichuan dialect popular in Sichuan before the Ming Dynasty and immigrant dialects in Huguang, Guangdong and Jiangxi during the "Huguang filling Sichuan" migration movement in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.

2. The source of Putonghua: The word Putonghua appeared in the late Qing Dynasty. In 1909, the Qing court defined Beiping Mandarin as "national language". During the Republic of China, Putonghua pronunciation was formulated many times. After the founding of New China, it was stipulated in 1955 that the national common language was Putonghua. The predecessor of Putonghua, Beijing Mandarin, dates back to the Yuan and Ming Dynasties and spread to the Qing Dynasty.

Third, the two languages are different:

1. Language family of Sichuan dialect: Southwest Mandarin-Sino-Tibetan language family.
