Prato is a city in north-central Italy. It is located in Tuscany, at the northwest foot of the Apennine Mountains, adjacent to the Bisenzio River and 16 kilometers southeast from Florence. Population: 180,000 (2006). An important woolen textile center, there are also industries such as cement, textile machinery and chemicals. The reason for the large number of local Chinese immigrants is that Prato is one of the important textile bases in Italy. The development of the textile industry contributed to the arrival of new Chinese immigrants in the 1980s, especially the gathering of Chinese who opened individual garment factories.
