According to the Interim Measures for the Administration of Carrying Foreign Currency Cash into and out of China jointly formulated by the State Administration of Foreign Exchange and the General Administration of Customs, people leaving China can take foreign currency out of the country, or they can take foreign currency out of the country by remittance or carrying money orders, traveler's checks, international credit cards, etc. Withdraw from the bank according to the national financial management regulations. The customs stipulates that the limit for passengers to carry RMB each time when leaving the country is 20,000 yuan. If the outbound personnel leave the country with foreign currency cash equivalent to less than $5,000 (including $5,000), the customs will release them. If it is necessary to carry the foreign currency cash equivalent to 5000- 10000 USD (including 10000 USD), it shall apply to the designated foreign exchange bank for a certificate of carrying, and the customs shall examine and release the certificate of carrying with the seal of the designated foreign exchange bank. Depending on the seriousness of the case, the customs will deal with passengers who carry excess currency when entering or leaving the country but fail to declare it to the customs truthfully. If it is confirmed as smuggling, the customs will confiscate all the currency it carries; If the violation is confirmed, the customs will impose a fine of 5%-20% on the passengers.
