Although the main force of the ice hockey team is in the United States, the highest proportion of players is Canadians, accounting for almost half of the country, while the United States is less than a quarter. Most of the rest are players from northern Europe, such as Russia, Sweden, Finland and Norway. These countries are characterized by being close to the Arctic Circle and having much snow all year round.

And in these countries, the proportion of blacks is very rare.

Traditionally, ice hockey is a traditional sport for white people, but in fact, black people also have a history of playing ice hockey. In Canada in the 19th century, there were many black players in the hockey league at that time.

However, in a more professional and higher level league, in the United States, a country with serious racial discrimination, NHL didn't have the first black ice hockey player until 1958. His name was Willie Orry, but it was not until 1974 that he came second and didn't become famous.

Therefore, it is not attractive enough for black people, so baseball and basketball are better choices for black players, and ice hockey, a sport that requires equipment and has no precedent for black players to succeed, is not very popular.

So until now, the proportion of black players in ice hockey is very low, but it has gradually improved. After all, black people are very athletic. In recent years, there have also appeared some stars, such as Jaromi Igira, Evander Kane and P.K. Suban.
