Shanwei is one of the four cities in Chaoshan and one of the cities in Shenzhen metropolitan area. Shanwei is a red homeland and an old revolutionary base area. It is one of the thirteen red revolutionary bases in China and the birthplace of the first county-level Soviet regime in China. All four counties (cities, districts) in the city are old revolutionary counties. Shanwei, located in the coastal area of eastern Guangdong, is praised by experts and scholars as "the golden coast of eastern Guangdong tourism".
