What should I do if I lose my American immigrant green card?

There are two situations here, both of which can be solved.

1, lost his green card in America, and he is in America.

In the United States, the loss of a green card includes theft, loss or damage, or the loss of a green card by the Immigration Bureau, or the discovery that the personal information on it is incorrect after receiving the green card. In the above circumstances, I-90 form (which can be filled online or mailed) should be submitted to the Immigration Bureau in time to apply for a new green card, and the corresponding application fee should be paid to the Immigration Bureau according to the above specific circumstances. In most cases, the current fee is $365 application fee+$85 fingerprint fee. Payment can be made by cheque or cashier's check, but the payee should write: US Department of Homeland Security. In addition to the above I-90 form, complete supporting materials (original green card, passport, photo and copy of $450 check) should be submitted to prove that the application is true. If it is submitted through the US Postal Service, it should be sent to the following address: US Citizenship and Immigration Service, PO Box 2 1262, Phoenix, AZ 85032. Generally speaking, after receiving your form, the Immigration Bureau will inform you to fingerprint it in about one month. Sometimes, a month or so after fingerprinting will make you fill in the materials. The whole process takes about 3 months.

This number is the case number given to you by the US Immigration Service when you applied for immigration. 2. I lost my green card in a foreign country, and I am in a foreign country.

The green card can only be reissued in USCIS in the United States. American embassies and consulates abroad cannot reissue green cards. They can only apply for a valid shipping letter for 30 years to let you enter the United States. So what you have to do is:

1) immediately report the case to the police station in the country or region where it is located, and ask the police station for an alarm report.

2) Publish the loss reporting statement in the classified advertisement of the local newspaper, and keep the payment receipt of the newspaper. In addition, after the classified advertisement is published, buy a newspaper and keep it. This step is sometimes unnecessary.

3) Apply for a "transport letter" at the nearest American embassy, which is equivalent to a temporary pass. You must return to the United States by international flight within one month after the letter is sent, and you will not be punished by immigration.

Procedures for applying for a traffic letter (the materials required by the embassy or consulate are different, please visit official website for details):

A) Fill in Form I-90;

B) Submit a valid passport (photo ID card, if any);

C) Submit the departure certificate (such as boarding pass, copy of passport, entry and exit stamp, etc.) for the last time. );

D) green card identification, such as a copy of a valid green card (front and back);

E) Proof of legal residence in the United States (if your passport shows that you entered the United States legally as an immigrant);

F) Proof of living in the United States in the last 12 months;

E) Local police report of the country or region where the green card is lost (English translation provided);

F) Detailed explanations, newspaper statements, indirect evidence, testimony, etc. This step is sometimes unnecessary.

G) More than three recent passport photos;

H) application fee $ 165.

Note: after you get the shipping letter, you'd better return to the United States as soon as possible (leave within the last 15 days, not before the expiration of one month) and apply for a new green card immediately.

The transport letter can't guarantee that you will be allowed to enter the customs as soon as you arrive in the United States, but it can make these residents be inspected as permanent residents when they enter the customs. In other words, the loss of their green card will no longer constitute a reason for refusing entry. But if there are other reasons, such as making the staff of the Department of Homeland Security think that these residents have given up the United States as their permanent residence, they will still be refused entry for these reasons.

Tips and suggestions:

1) Save the air ticket to leave the United States;

2) Copy the front and back of the green card. It is recommended to scan a copy, save it on a USB flash drive, or send it to your mailbox. It is recommended not to use gmail when returning to China.

3) Copy all pages of the passport, or scan and save a copy as above;
