The new bill lowered the residence requirement. The original Bill C-24 required that after six years, the resident must have lived for four years (the annual residence time should not be less than 183 days, excluding the residence time of non-permanent residents), and the new Bill C-6 changed the residence requirement to five years and lived for three years (the annual residence requirement was abolished 183 days, and the residence time of non-permanent residence status could be calculated at half of the conversion rate, and the longest conversion time should not exceed one year).

Industry insiders remind that the time for immigrant applicants to stay in Canada as international students or temporary residents is also counted. In changing the tax return records within five years to three years, the original bill stipulated that tax return records for four years within the past six years were required. The new bill only needs to provide tax returns for three of the past five years.

5. Invalid intention to stay in Canada: The new law defines that the Canadian government has no right to declare citizens' Canadian citizenship invalid. Even if you move out of Canada after naturalization, you will not be disqualified by the international community and have freedom of movement.
