First of all, because more and more young people are unwilling to farm. They prefer working in the city to farming. However, the elderly can't work. Even if they want to farm, they can't. This is one of the reasons why there are more and more wasteland.

The second point is that China is becoming more and more urbanized, and the facilities, education level and medical care level in cities are better than those in rural areas. In order to pursue better living conditions, people living in rural areas, especially young people, want to move to cities, which also leads to more and more crowded cities.

Third, it is unprofitable to grow crops. Nowadays, more and more people think that working outside the home makes more money than farming at home. Many young people in rural areas are reluctant to go back to farming in order to gain more knowledge and employment opportunities after studying abroad. They think they can earn more money outside and their living standards can be improved a lot. Those young people who have not gained much knowledge are more willing to go out to work and find jobs in some big cities or local towns, feeling that they earn more money than farming at home.

Fourthly, China now imports more food. Due to the large population, our own food supply is insufficient. So import a lot of grain, so that our grain pressure will not be too great, and the price of grain collected will also drop. Therefore, more people are unwilling to farm.

Fifth, with the implementation of a series of policies such as returning farmland to forests and immigration, some farmland is naturally abandoned. Due to traffic jams, people living in remote mountainous areas and forests gradually moved to towns with convenient transportation, and there was no race in the farmland.
