How to apply for a residence permit in Sweden and apply for an extension?

By the beginning of school, foreign students should prepare their residence permits, and students who have already studied in Sweden should also prepare to renew them. So today I will tell you about the residence permit in Sweden.

I. Application for Residence Permit

Step 1: Admission Notice

Before you start to apply for a residence permit to study in Sweden, you must first make sure that you have received the admission notice from the school. For most undergraduate and master applicants, it is to download a PDF file named "Notice of Selection Results" from the website of the applying school, which is the only admission certificate. For exchange students, the admission documents are different. You can look here.

Step 2: Pay the tuition.

Students who have received the school admission notice should always pay attention to the emails sent by the school at this time, one of which tells you how to pay the tuition. Many college students pay by bank remittance. You can refer to it After paying the tuition, some schools have asked to send them a scanned copy of the remittance voucher, instead of throwing it away after paying the fee.

Step 3: Prepare the application materials.

This step is the most important part of the application process!

? Application Form: Students who apply online can fill in the information directly at the Swedish Immigration Bureau in official website.

? Scanned copy of valid passport: If you have valid residence or visa in other countries, you should also scan the visa page.

? Admission notice: for most students, it is the file I started talking about downloading.

? Medical insurance *: For students who have studied for less than one year, proof of comprehensive medical insurance is required. Most one-year master program schools provide comprehensive medical insurance.

? Property certificate: the official English property certificate of the bank under your account is at least 8,064 Swedish kronor per month (subject to the official website figures of the Immigration Bureau at the time of application), and students who have studied for more than one year must provide at least 80,640 Swedish kronor. A few details! If the bank cannot provide proof in English, it needs official translation and notarization. The date of issuing the real estate license and the date of applying for the residence permit should not be too long apart, preferably within two or three days. If a property certificate is issued to freeze the deposit, make sure that the date of unfreezing the deposit is earlier than the date of your entry into Sweden.

? Scholarship *: For students whose study and living expenses are all from scholarships or subsidies, you need to provide documents to prove that you have won a scholarship that can cover all living expenses. The contents of the document need to have the amount of scholarships each month and the collection time of each scholarship.

Step 4: Submit the application materials.

There are two ways to submit application materials: one is to apply directly at the Swedish Immigration Bureau in official website, and the other is to apply in person in embassies and consulates in China, Sweden. It is most convenient to apply directly online, but students under the age of 18 need to apply in person at the embassy or consulate. Residents of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui and Zhejiang should submit their applications to the Swedish Consulate General in Shanghai. Residents of all other provinces should submit their applications to the Swedish Embassy in Beijing. Residents of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Province Province should submit their applications to the Swedish Consulate General in Hong Kong. )

Step 5: Pay the application fee.

After uploading all the materials, choose to pay the application fee with a credit card (or debit card) with the logo of Visa or MasterCard/European Card according to the instructions of the website.

Step 6: Wait for the application result.

Generally, the first online application period for undergraduate and master students is one to two months. You can calculate how long the application will take here.

Step 7: Enter biological information.

After successfully applying for residence permit, you can enter your own biological information: photos and fingerprints in embassies and consulates in China, Sweden. For most students, when your application status becomes "pending", you can enter biological information, which can save a little time.

Step 8: Get a residence permit.

After the residence card is sent to the embassy or consulate, you will receive an email reminding you that you can get the residence card. Students living in other places can write a power of attorney for their friends to take with them and help them get it.

Two. Extension of residence permit

Submit an application for extension of residence permit before its expiration. The application for extension of residence permit can be submitted within six months before the expiration of the validity period at the earliest. After submitting the application for extension of residence permit, even if the previous residence permit expires, you still enjoy the legal right of residence in Sweden. However, if you haven't got a residence card, it is recommended not to leave Sweden.

The procedures for renewing the residence permit for studying abroad are basically the same as those for the first application. Here I mainly write down the materials needed to apply for a residence permit. If there is no specific explanation, I will drink the materials provided for the first time.

? A scanned copy of a valid passport

? I'm still studying the certification materials for admission to existing projects or new projects.

? Proof of normal learning progress: at least 15 credits in the first year and at least 22.5 credits in the second year; At least 30 credits in the third year. (preferably at least 30 credits per year)

? Property certificate: This is different from the first application, which requires sufficient balance and three months' consumption.

After the materials are submitted, you have to wait, but you should prepare the materials as required. If you are asked to make up the materials, the waiting time will be longer. After receiving the email accepting biological information, you can collect fingerprints and photos at the nearest immigration office.
