The territory of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms and the Southern Chu Period

Chu (AD 896-95 1), one of the ten countries in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, was the only dynasty established with Hunan as the center in history. Historically known as Machu, it is also known as Nanchu, Machu State and Machu regime, and its capital is Tanzhou (now Changsha). Ma Su, the founder of Chu State, was born in Yanling, Xuzhou (now Yanling, Henan).
