Historical evolution of ATI technology company

ATI was founded on August 20th, 1985 by four immigrants from Canada, namely He, Benny Lau, Lee Lau from Guangzhou and Adrian Hartog from the Netherlands. ATI was originally an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), manufacturing display chips for large personal computer manufacturers (such as IBM). However, from 1987, ATI became an independent graphics card retailer, selling ATI EGA Miracle and VGA Miracle graphics cards.

1997, ATI successfully acquired Tseng Labs, his biggest competitor at that time, and added 40 new engineers to the company. In 2000, ATI acquired ArtX, a company that produces Flipper display chips. Flipper is the core of Nintendo GameCube. Now, ATI is designing a display chip for Nintendo's Wii console. Previously, ATI had designed a display chip for Microsoft's Xbox 360.

In 2005, ATI acquired Terayon's cable modem silicon intellectual property to consolidate its position in the digital TV market.

On July 24th, 2006, ATI was acquired by AMD for $5.4 billion.

The current CEO of ATI is David Orton (a former member of ArtX), and his country became the chairman until June 22, 2005.
