How to apply for the I-20 form for studying in the United States?

What is the I-20 form? What is the function of the I-20 form when studying in the United States? Let me introduce it to you!

Form I-20 (non-immigrant student identity qualification certificate) is the qualification certificate of non-immigrant students. Prospective international students applying for F and M visas need to obtain I-20 to successfully enter the United States.

After the applicant is admitted to a school certified by SEVIS, the school official (DSO) designated by the school will issue two different types of I-20 forms according to the specific situation:

? Students applying for F visa: If they are admitted to an academic or language school and will enter the school with an F- 1 visa, the I-20 form they receive is "non-immigrant (F- 1) student qualification certificate"-academic students and language school students.

? Students applying for an M visa: If they are admitted to a vocational school and will enter the school with an M- 1 visa, the I-20 form they receive is "Non-immigrant (M- 1) student qualification certificate-vocational school students".

Form I-20 will be used in the following situations:

? Pay I-90 1SEVIS fee: if you are admitted to more than one school, each school will issue I-20. If more than one I-20 is received, the I-90 1 SEVIS fee shall be paid by using the I-20 form sent by the proposed school.

? Visa application: Applicants need to go to the American embassy or consulate for visa formalities with the I-20 form and other application materials at least 120 days before the date specified in the I-20 form.

? Entry into the United States: When entering the United States with an F or M visa, you need to bring the I-20 form. You need to show this document to the CBP staff when you enter the country. But you can only enter the United States 30 days before the date specified in the I-20 form at the earliest, and you can't advance it.

? Apply for a driver's license or social security number: After studying abroad, if you need to apply for a driver's license or social security number, you may also need to bring an I-20 form to prove that you are enrolled in a legal program.

If the applicant has any questions about the I-20 form, he can contact the school's DSO. It is worth noting that only SEVP-certified schools can issue I-20 forms to F and M student visa applicants through their DSO.
