The 56 ethnic groups refer to the ethnic groups in People's Republic of China (PRC) (including Chinese mainland, Hongkong and Macau) and Taiwan Province Province. According to the official definition of People's Republic of China (PRC), there are 56 ethnic groups in China, including the Han nationality and 55 ethnic minorities. China is a unified multi-ethnic country, consisting of 56 ethnic groups. Because of the large population of Han nationality (9 1.6% of the total population), it is customary to refer to the other 55 ethnic groups as ethnic minorities. Among the 55 ethnic minorities in China, Zhuang has the largest population, with180,000 people. The least is the Lhoba, with a population of less than 3,000 (excluding the 600,000 Lhoba in the Indian-occupied area of southern Tibet).
