The history and culture of Fule Town
Fu Le was originally called "Mingjia Village". There were only a few households at that time. Legend has it that a beggar named Liu Zhiyuan traveled to the area and led the villagers to "mining", so it was renamed "Beizhe Factory". The original mine entrance is on the cliff beside the Kuaze River. The ancients transported the ore back and forth along the stone ladders carved with chisels on the cliff. Just seeing this makes people wonder how the ancients found out that there was a mine here. So, It is also said that Liu Zhiyuan is a god descended to earth. All in all, hundreds of years later when we came to this place where the treasure was hidden, we saw that the Kuaze River divided the mountain into two. The top of the mountain was several hundred meters away from the bottom of the river. Entering the bottom of the valley was a line of sky, and birds were flying randomly above the cliff. Yelling and looking up makes you dizzy.
It is said that lead and zinc were called "Japanese silver" in ancient times. After large-scale mining of lead and zinc ore, people changed its name to "Woyin factory". During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, zinc was mainly used to prepare brass for casting money and making various utensils.
At that time, after Sun Kewang, leader of the rebel army in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, became king in Kunming, his general Li Dingguo's "hundred-thousand-thousand-strong army" marched to Fule, bringing Fule's lead and zinc mining and smelting to a climax. This also attracted investors and migrant workers from Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places to gather in Fule. Tannery, vinegar, clothing, copperware, silverware, ironware and other industries were booming for a while. .
In order to facilitate business negotiations and rest, and to protect the rights and interests of fellow citizens, people from various provinces built many guild halls in Fule. The existing documented ones include: Guizhou Guild Hall built in 1700; The Yunnan Guild Hall was built in 1720; the Sichuan Guild Hall was built in 1720; the Huguang Guild Hall was built in 1700; and the Jiangxi Guild Hall was built in 1706. Due to historical reasons, most of these guild halls were destroyed and their addresses were used for other purposes. The only one that remains is the Yunnan guild hall.
When you come to Fule, what you must see is the well-preserved Zhongtian Dou Pavilion, which was built in 1737 (the early years of Kangxi) with joint investment from the five major halls. Zhongtian Dou Pavilion is also called Yuhuang Pavilion. At that time, the influence of the Qing Dynasty regime had not yet affected a border town like Fule, so its architectural style completely belongs to the Ming Dynasty. In the early years of the Republic of China, the local armed forces organized by General Zhang Chong arrived at Fule from Luxi and wrote the name "Zhongtian Douge" for Zhongtian Douge in his own hand. To this day, there are still several intact bronze Buddha statues preserved in the pavilion.
Historical records show that among the hundreds of surnames today, Fule has more than 50 surnames. What would it be like if people from all over the world gathered on a mountaintop covered by clouds and fog? In the early years of the Republic of China, people changed "Wo Yin Factory" into its current literary name - "Fule", which means "wealth" and "well-being". It has a history of more than 400 years and is known as "Luoping County History". It has the reputation of "an ancient cultural town". Looking at it today, "Fu Le" not only expresses a wish and a memory, but also a reality.
Fule Ancient Town
Fule Ancient Town is built along the mountain. Walking on the old street, there are buildings from the Ming, Qing and Republic of China eras on both sides. The relatively flat section of the market town is called Shangping Street, the steeper section in the middle is called Dou Street, and the lower section of the relatively flat section is called Xiaping Street. The three streets all have a characteristic. There is a pavilion in front of each house, which is specially used for business, including those selling jelly, paper fires, incense and candles, and agricultural tools...
"People don't do business." People are more energetic when they have more money, and people are not less angry when they are poor." This is the unique business culture of Fule Ancient Town. "Fighting, drilling, and calculating" is the business spirit of the ancient town. Businessmen are united as a family, each doing their own business, and there is no conflict with each other. It is not a life-and-death struggle, but a complement to each other. This way, there is no harm to the harmony, and everyone can make money.
This culture is closely related to the local emphasis on education. "If any family cannot afford a scholar, it may be completely blank and disgraceful." A 76-year-old man named Luo on Dou Street proudly told reporters. Therefore, people here attach great importance to education. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1761), Zhexi Academy was opened.
When you come to Fule Ancient Town, you can’t miss the delicious food, such as dried beef, jelly, yellow noodles, etc. Of course, the more famous one is Fule crispy pork. Lean meat is generally used when making it. Mix honey, ginger juice, green onion juice, eggs, pepper, star anise and other condiments with the lean meat evenly, and use a slotted spoon to spoon by spoon. Ladle it into the oil pan and wait until the meat turns jujube color before taking it out. Eat it while it's hot. The mouthful of crispy meat will make you salivate.
Today, women on Doujie Street still use copper basins to wash their hair on the street; the centuries-old stone water jars in front of their doors are still filled with clean water; under the induction cooker where they are cooking, there is an ancient table table.
Wandering in the small town, among the ancient streets, alleys and temples, you are immersed in the sunshine and air of distant times, and you have something to rely on, something to express your feelings, and something to enjoy! According to records in Luoping County Chronicles and local inscriptions, Fule was not originally a settlement village.
